Best projector types explained. which projectors best for you. projector prices, advantages and disadvantages of each technology. Guide to buy perfect projector for your needs. compare DLP, LCoS, LCD, LED, and Laser Projectors

Types of Projectors to buy DLP LCoS LCD LED or Laser

Projectors are used to different purposes.

It's the best media to watch tv, movies and other videos at home theater.

Widely used in classrooms, presentations, business meetings, concerts and other events.

There are many places to buy projectors and accessories for a cheap price on the internet. but most of them worthless for their price and have very poor quality.

You should consider the maker or the brand before spending your money on buying a projector that worth the price.

It's even better to understand the different types of projectors before you buy them.

There are four different types of projectors on the market. Such as  DLP, LCoS, LCD, LED or Laser.

Each technology has its own advantages and disadvantages also different price ranges.

The projector you should select will depend on the room setup, lighting conditions, picture quality and budget you spending.

So carefully read this before you buying a projector.

And in the end of this article I will  summarize comparing all the advantages and disadvantages of using a table all the technologies listed here.

Almost all the projectors work in the same basic principle. it's filter the light source based on image data, that want to display. Use lenses to transfer the final image to the screen.

Types of projectors and their pros and cons

DLP (digital light processing) projectors

All the DLP projectors use digital mirror device referred to as DLP chip

DLP projectors have high intensity discharge bulb to send light through a spinning colour wheel on to special DMD device. This device shines image data to the screen  through a lens.

DLP projectors use mechanical parts to filter their image data. So it may be noisy compared to other technologies on the list.

Best for watching fast motions. But some viewers may experience rainbow effect on the screen while they were moving their heads.

DLP projectors available in single chip and 3-chip versions. They have used in high-end home theatre systems and commercial applications.

LCD (liquid crystal display) projectors

LCD projectors produce twice luminous brighter colours and deep black comparing with dlp projectors.

This projectors doesn't have mechanical motion parts and its make less noise.

Producing 3D images can be less accurate than dlp projector

That can display rich colour saturation and image sharpness. Good for handling motions.

50% of market contains LCD projectors and LCD technology is the most popular technology available

LCoS (liquid crystal on silicon) Projectors

LCoS projectors produce smooth film light projected image. Has darker black compared with LCD projectors.

Images can be noisy and LCoS projectors not best option to watch on large screens.

LCoS projector manufacturers uses different trademarks for their variations of their lcos technologies and they may be expensive

Such as sony-SXRD, JVC D-ILA, Epson-LCD Reflective

LED (light emitting diodes) projectors

LED and LCD the difference of the technology lies in the light source of the projectors.

LED projectors have higher lifespan compared with LCD projectors

The maintenance cost and power consumption is very low. generate less heat.

Laser projectors

Has better image quality, infinite contrast, color and higher reliability. Brightness also will be constant over time.

Do not need to replace lamps or filters and no maintenance needed. Turning on and off multiple times won't affect its internal components.

Like LED projectors Laser projector also have lower power consumption.

Cost is still higher. But its showing price will be lower in the near future.

projectors doesn't need long distance. it can be place small distance from the screen.

Other features you should consider

Digital keystone

Projector must be placed perpendicular to the screen if it's not the image will not be rectangular this is keystone error most of the projectors have digital keystone correction but old projectors doesn't have that.

Lamp life

If you buy a projector that has lamp inside you should consider the lamp life time and price.  lamp can last 2000 to 4000 hours it means after the output of the lamp diminishes over time should replace another lamp

Contrast ratio

contrast ratio means the difference between the darkest and brightest pixels. If this ratio is higher it's always better.

There are various resolutions of projectors on the market 720p, 1080p, HD, 4K UHD. Select at least 1080p projector if you thinking it using on family cinema.

Most of the projectors have 60 to 120 frames per second. if you are a gamer be careful on fps value.

3D viewability

If you watching 3D cinema, there are two types of 3D technologies. Active 3D and Passive 3D most Projectors that have 3D capabilities will use Active 3D technology. Some projectors come with a pair of free glasses. If don't you have to buy them separately.

Operating system

Most mini projectors comes with Android OS. You can download and install your favorite apps from playstore directly.

When you are buying a projector you should also consider the cellar warranties and money back guarantees if you're buying you are a projector from online, considered shipping price and government taxes.
